Nicole and Matt weren’t afraid to have a little fun with their wedding day, and we absolutely loved seeing all of the personal touches they brought to The Hummingbird Chateau. Their whimsical Maryland wedding day was colorful and full of details inspired by some of Nicole’s favorite things. Wildflowers showed up throughout the celebration, little mushroom details added to the whimsical feel, and even the heart-shaped plates fit right in. Nothing felt like it was chosen simply because it was something you’re “supposed” to have at a wedding. It all felt like them. And really, that’s one of our favorite things to see couples do here.

One of the fun things about having a wedding at The Hummingbird Chateau is seeing how differently every couple uses the space. Nicole and Matt leaned into color and brought in plenty of playful details. Their wildflower-inspired florals were filled with pinks, purples, oranges, and greenery, which looked beautiful against the white exterior of the Chateau and all of the surrounding trees.
Inside the barn, long wooden tables were dressed with a bright blue runner, mismatched bottles and vases filled with flowers, candles, and plenty of little details to discover. Even the desserts got in on the theme, with adorable mushroom cupcakes tucked among greenery, berries, and twinkle lights.

Nicole and Matt’s portraits are probably the best proof that your wedding photos don’t have to feel overly formal. Local photographer Carmen Alicia took advantage of some of our favorite spots around the property, including the little white greenhouse and the grounds surrounding the Chateau. But they also hopped on the swing together, laughed their way through portraits, and simply looked like they were having a genuinely good time.
That same energy carried throughout the rest of the celebration. This wasn’t a day that felt overly scheduled or serious. There was room to enjoy the food, spend time with family and friends, dance, and actually have fun at their own wedding.

Food was another important part of Nicole and Matt’s celebration, and they kept things local with R&D Eats. R&D Eats offers special event catering and custom chef experiences, and you can also find their food truck out and about locally. We always love when our couples bring local businesses into their wedding day, especially when it means their guests get to enjoy some seriously good food in the process.

There are plenty of beautiful wedding ideas out there, but Nicole and Matt’s day is a great reminder that you don’t have to recreate someone else’s wedding to have a beautiful one. Pick the colors you actually love. Add the mushrooms. Use the mismatched bottles. Put your favorite flowers everywhere. Get on the swing in your wedding clothes!
